KEUKENHOF GARDENS

As I turn a year older, I want to witness and explore one of the world's
most beautiful gardens bloom into life.
Keukenhof gardens, lovingly known as the Garden of Europe as it springs to life with
one of the great symbols of the Netherlands, the tulip.
With the gardens, only open for eight weeks a year, we were lucky to visit it this year before it closes...
just in time for my birthday!
In 2017 Keukenhof is open only from 23 March to 21 May.

Tulips are eternally entwined with the Netherlands, one of the iconic images of the nation.

More than 7 million bulbs are planted in Keukenhof's 32 hectares (79 acres), which are supplied, for free, by 100 bulb growers.

Keukenhof's name has even older origins, Countless jacoba van Beieren owned the land in the 15th century. The uncultivated land was used for hunting and gathering herbs for the castle's kitchen, hence Keukenhof, or Kitchen Gardens.
Growing 4.2 million bulbs a year, the Netherlands is the world's largest producer of tulip bulbs. Half of which are exported.

Each year, Keukenhof has a different theme.
This year the theme is Dutch Design.
The flower mosaic depicts a Mondriaan painting combined with designer chairs.
In addition to the tulip gardens, Keukenhof also hosts a japanese garden, an English landscape garden, a spring meadow, a natural garden, a historic garden, a garden maze, and seven inspiration gardens that are different each year.
Keukenhof Garden was the most beautiful garden I had ever seen.
With Netherlands just 45 minutes away from London, we might make this our yearly Spring destination.

Enjoy a short video from our Netherlands trip.
