HANNOVER

Historic Hannover is the capital city of the German state of Lower Saxony.
It lies on the Leine River and the Mittelland Canal, where the spurs of the Harz Mountains meet the wide North German Plain.
Me and Gio flew all the way from London to Hannover to visit our Auntie Marilou and Uncle Thomas.
It is my first time in Germany and first time to meet both of them personally.
The weather is a bit chilly but the colours of Autumn made our trip more memorable.

The New Town Hall - Rathaus

The New Town Hall is picture perfect as pretty leaves of autumn grew old, full of light and colour.
Its size and grand architectural style make it look more "historical", like a relict from more majestic times,
when Hannover used to be a kingdom.
Kropcke-Uhr
An old clock located at the junction which is surrounded by various shops and cafes.
A popular meeting place for locals and tourists as well.
The new opera house is a classical style building with two large wings and a balcony with statues of
famous poets and composers.
In front of the Railway Station is the Statue of Ernst August. A meeting point for most of the locals and travellers, they will say "I will meet you under the horse's tail".

The best way to travel around the city is by tram.

Hanover's lovely Marktplatz, in the center of the Old Town, is where you'll find many of the city's historic buildings.
One of the most notable is the 15th-century Late Gothic Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus).

A well preserved old Hannover with its many handsome half-timbered houses.
The Gottingen Sieben
These beautiful statues and sculptures depicts the "Gottingen 7" who stood up to King Ernst Augustus of Hannover.
Hannover is a lovely city.
Many of its municipal buildings are former castles and stately residences.
You can visit Hannover during their festival season and enjoy the Maschseefest, Marksmen's Festival
and International Fireworks Competition.
Find time to enjoy some of Hannover's open air markets as well.
