Hameln lies embedded in the gentle hills of the Weserberg region.
This town stands for the darkest figure of the German Fairy Tale route the "Pied Piper".
Hameln is a beautifully restored historical town with magnificent timber-framed and sandstone buildings,
many of which date from Renaissance period.
Architecture enthusiasts call it a jewel of the Weser Renaissance.
As we walk through the old town of Hameln, I was convinced of its unique charm.
The town centre with its commercial streets and the magnificent Weser Renaissance architecture is the perfect area to stroll around, grab a bite to eat and shop for souvenirs.
With exceptional architectural style houses packed closely together on the narrow streets, the Hameln city centre shows off its many treasures on every corner.
The town also presents the opportunity to make friends with an animal that you'd normally go out of your way to avoid:
the RAT, which of course holds special significance for the locals.
According to theory, Pied Piper was a symbol of hope to the people of Hameln,
which had been attacked by plague; he drove the rats from Hameln, saving the people from the epidemic.

Rats here, there and everywhere!
On the trail: the pavements in Hameln are painted with thousands of these little animals which point the way to the main attractions in the town.
During our visit, the locals are starting to build the German Christmas Market where you can enjoy sizzling sausages, Gluhwein (mulled wine) and gingerbread.
In the middle of the beautiful Weserberg countryside, Hameln is also the starting point for many gorgeous walk, hikes and cycling tours.
After a long day, we had a nice cuppa whilst enjoying the sunset at Auntie Marilou & Uncle Thomas' Backyard.
